Orchestra Names New Music Director

                         Fred Leder to conduct

                    The Villages Pops Orchestra

Fred Leder has been appointed Music Director of The Villages Pops Orchestra, succeeding Kerry Nichols who stepped down earlier this year. According to board president Carolyn Lindgren, “We’re delighted to have found such a highly qualified and energetic musician to lead our orchestra.”

Mr. Leder began his formal music education at New York University and holds bachelors and advanced degrees. His continuing education includes study at Lincoln Center in Advanced Conducting with Leonard Bernstein and other instructors.

Mr. Leder, whose primary instrument is the trumpet, played in many New York area and Florida ensembles. He held the principal trumpet chair with The Westchester Philharmonic and the same position with The Alhambra Orchestra in Miami. He also conducted south Florida groups including The Alhambra Orchestra and the Light Opera of Palm Beach.

Mr. Leder and his wife Judy moved to The Villages last year and he joined The Villages Pops Orchestra’s trumpet section. His debut as conductor will be the orchestra’s November 16 concert at the Savannah center, “From Broadway to The Big Screen”.
